About Rachel
Prior to becoming a doula, I was an infant/toddler nanny and household manager for six years. I often found myself working with families welcoming new babies, as I nannied the older siblings. Being with caregivers during their postpartum time allowed me to witness and learn about the spectrum of postpartum experiences, and showed me the importance of support and care during this special time. When I later learned about the role of a postpartum doula, it felt so aligned. I knew I wanted to give parents the support they needed to help them feel capable, connected, and cared for, while supporting the whole family unit.
My passion for sleep coaching grew as I worked with young kids and saw how much families struggled with sleep. I could clearly see the ways that sleep deprivation impacted parents’ mental health, daily functioning, and even their relationship with their child- not to mention how much their little ones were struggling too. It’s so common to hear that being sleep deprived for years is just a part of parenting, like a badge of honor almost, and I wanted to challenge that narrative, as sleep is SO important. I loved helping parents create routines and come up with sleep strategies, and questions like “how are you getting him to nap so long?” inspired me to dive deeper. In seeking training it was very important to me that the program wasn’t tied to one specific method, enabling me to develop a super flexible, tailored approach to meet each families unique needs.
Alongside my nanny career, I bring with me a rich background of performance and music, teaching youth with disabilities, and natural wellness. I love using creativity and singing with little ones to foster joy and connection. I’m also passionate about nontoxic household products and enjoy helping families create healthier, more supportive environments.
When I’m not working with families, I enjoy spending time with my own! I recently moved across the country from Vermont with my fiancé Alex and dog Rikki. We love spending time outdoors, exploring the beautiful nature that Washington has to offer. I also love hanging out with my little nephews and baby niece. I enjoy being creative, singing, moving my body, and creating simple, healthy and delicious meals.
